That’s a pretty good rule! That being said, I wonder what would prevent a 2 stroke diesel from using reed valves... I’ve never seen it, so there must be a reason.

I think for diesel, they can’t scavenge exhaust out well enough without a blower on the intake side.

I understand that the issue is that they can’t take in enough air unaided to get a sufficiently high compression ratio.
